Differences aside, we sat down to eat them and sadly discovered that we had no syrup. But what could we do? Trash the pancakes? I don't think so. After a few choice cuss words, we decided to suck it up and tolerate my syrup-less masterpiece.
Not. The. Same.
Within a day or two we picked up some syrup and from that moment forward all I could do was think about pancakes, pancakes, PaNcAkEs. Paaan-caaaakes! Finally I had to make them for lunch (first it was a meatball, then chili for breakfast, now pancakes for lunch... blame global warming).
For some strange reason, I have become obsessed with photographing my food. So, I present to you (drumroll, please)...
...a pancake photo...

Oh. And here's a grilled cheese sandwich, too.

I have no idea how I transformed into a foodie.
Weird.

Maybe this is your way to do a food diary. There was a study that claimed that when the participants wrote down what they ate, even without being exact about calories or portion sizes, they were still likely to eat less than those who did not "journal" about their food.
ReplyDeleteOh and I think that most foodies would see that you used American cheese as turn their noses up at you. :D
ReplyDeleteThat grilled cheese looks delightfully sinful. What kind of bread and cheese and other fabulous goodies are in it?
ReplyDelete@me
ReplyDeleteI'm not really keeping a food journal because I'm leaving off things like, cheese popcorn at 11pm, the quarter-pounder with cheese for lunch, etc.
I'm not really sure why I take pictures some times and not others. I made a bitchin' tomato bisque-like soup that, because I was starving, I did not take a picture of before I scarfed it down.
Just in case you're not familiar with them: a different twist on a pancake obsession could involve "johnnycakes" (especially with chili or some sort of baked beans), which are made out of cornmeal. I suppose a purist would want to make-up their own batter from scratch; but "Jiffy Mix" (diluted down from the consistency required for cornbread) works quite nicely for my wife and I. (I think the recipe is on the box.)
ReplyDelete@Hi I'm Kim
ReplyDeleteFor bread I used Trader Joe's San Francisco Style Multigrain Sourdough Bread (with millet, sunflower and flax seed).
I buttered both sides of the bread, then grilled one side, flipped it over.
With the grilled side face up, I added a slice of swiss on one side and on the other I added provolone and American cheese - so the American cheese would be in the middle.
YUM!
@Me
I'm not a true foodie yet, but you've known me forever and it's hard to deny that when it comes to eating healthy and cooking, I've come a long way, baby!
Oh, Trader Joe's, I miss it. It's amazing to think about living in a place where TJ's bread is the everyday bread. I can taste the bite of whole grains in my mouth, the hot melted cheese... my my.
ReplyDeleteI'm hungry now... just like last time. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBut the pancakes look good. And the sandwich looks yummy. But boooo @ American cheese!
Yes you didn't even used to make much food at home. Now you and James are whipping up food daily. I haven't been to Taco Bell in forever.
ReplyDeleteI like grilled cheese with the pain beaucaire from Companion, chopped tomatoes, shredded swiss cheese, and for goodness sake salt and pepper it. It is my favorite way to make grilled cheese now.
Thanks for the recipe! It's meatless Friday so we are having grilled cheese for dinner. Mmmm, can't wait.
ReplyDeleteMost people we know have pancakes onpancake day.
ReplyDeleteWe like to call it pancake MONTH!!
frogtastic photos....MMMM I'm feeling hungry again.....
So your craving chili and meatballs for breakfast and pancakes for lunch...Are you pregnant?? Just sayin...
ReplyDeleteNope. Not pregnant. I've always been like this. I'm a picky eater. I want certain foods, cooked a certain way, at a certain time. And that's final.
ReplyDeleteDarn! I thought we were having a grand-baby... no offence to Nico! I absolutley love my Grand-dog, just can't teach her to say "Love You Gramma".
ReplyDeleteoh gawd, that grilled cheese sandwich just about sent my taste buds into overdrive. . . YUM.
ReplyDeleteGreat food here. My kids love fetuccine carbonara, the one we usually buy during malling. Do you know how to make the white sauce? Can you share it with me? Thanks in advance. Have a sweet day. :)
ReplyDeleteOh ... I'm in love with that grilled cheese....lol
ReplyDeleteOK..those both look great but damn..that grilled cheese looks good..I'd like it with a bowl of tomato soup please..and thank you..
ReplyDeleteI know I'm a little late at commenting but... yum!
